Leadership

The real test of leadership isn't where you start out. It's where you end up!

Positional Leaders:
Speak first
Need the influence of the real leader to get things done
Influence only other positional leaders

Real Leaders:
Speak later
Need only their own influence to get things done
Influence everyone in the room

Leaders Who Develop Leaders

Leaders who develop followers grow their organization only one person at a time. But Leaders who develop leaders multiply their growth, because for every leader they develop, they also receive all of that leader's followers. Add ten followers to your organization, and you have the power of ten leaders times all the followers and leaders they influence. That's the difference between addition and multiplication. It's like growing your organization by teams instead of individuals. The better the leaders you develop, the greater the quality and quantity of followers.

To go to the highest level, you have to develop leaders of leaders. Some leaders want to make followers. Make Leaders! Not only want to make leaders, but make leaders of leaders. And then leaders of leaders of leaders. Once you are able to follow that pattern, there is almost no limit to the growth of your organization. That's why to add growth, lead followers, but to multiply growth, lead leaders. That's the Law of Explosive Growth.

Becoming a leader who develops leaders requires entirely different focus and attitude from those of a developer of followers. Consider some of the differences.

LEADERS WHO DEVELOP FOLLOWERS
Need to be Needed
Focus on Weaknesses
Develop the bottom 20%
Treat their people the same for fairness
Hoard power
Spend time with others
Grow by addition
Impact only people they touch

LEADERS WHO DEVELOP LEADERS
Want to be succeeded
Focus on Strenghts
Develop the top 20%
Treat their leaders as indivduals for impact
Invest time in others
Give Power away
Grow by multiplication
Impact people far beyond their own reach

Developing leaders is difficult because potential leaders are harder to find and attract. They're also harder to hold onto once you find them because unlike followers, they are energectic and entrepreneurial, and they tend to want to go their own way. Developing leaders is also hard work. Leadership development isn't an add-water and stir proposition.

It takes time, energy and resources.

Seven Steps to Success

Seven Steps to Success
1. Make A Committment To Grow Daily.

Choose the right focus. Success doesn't come from acquiring, achieving, or advancing. It only comes from growing. Do a little each day.

2. Value The Process More Than The Events.

It is the process of change and growth that has lasting value, not life events If you want the next level - stive for continual improvement.

3. Don't Wait For Inspiration.

Motivate yourself no matter how you feel. To be successful, persevere.

4. Be Willing To Sacrifice Pleasure For Opportunity.

Pay now, play later. For everything in life, there is a price. You choose but if you pay first, then you will enjoy greater rewards in the end - and those rewards taste sweeter!

5. Dream BIG!

We have no idea what people's limits are. There is nothing in the world to meausre human potential. Pursue your dream and you can go beyond what seems your limitation.

6. Plan Your Priorities.

Every minute spent in planning will save two in execution. You never regain lost time, so make the most of every minute.

7. Give Up To Go Up!

Nothing of value comes without sacrifice. Life is filled with critical moments when you have the opporutnity to trade one thing you value for another. Keep your eyes open for such moments and always be sure to trade up, not down.

If you dedicate yourself to these seven steps, then you will keep improving, and you will be successful. Your growth may not be obvious to others all at once, but you will see your progress almost immediately. And though recognition from others may come slowly, don't lose heart, Keep working at it and in the end you will Succeed!

Owning A Business

Owning a Business is definently interesting, rewarding and emotional. If you have ever owned your own business, you will know exactly what I am talking about. You are the one to make things happen, but You are the one to Make things Happen. You are the one to make decisions, but You are the one to Make the Decisions! Your success depends on you, and Your Success is Determined By You!

I love owning my own business. I have been a business owner for the last 14 years and have never looked back. I actually consider myself un-employable. If someone hired me today and I had to ask them for 6 weeks of paid time off, work 1-4pm or whatever hours I choose, on the projects I am interested in doing, from home, with some play time with my son in between and a 6 figure income, who would hire me? ME!!! I would! I know that I am worth it!

All business owners know these are some of the reasons we own our own business. Freedom! Money! Be Your Own Boss!

I would not give up anything that I have, have done or will do in the future in exchange for what I have. I love my job, I love my boss and I love my freedom - oh and so does my son.

My blogs will be about owning a business, ideas of how to prospect, keeping motivated, running a Team, Making Money and developing a schedule that allows for family time and happy hours.
